The “DATE Culture” Fostered by Masamune
10 Osaki Hachimangu Shrine
Built by Masamune in 1607, this shrine is the oldest “gongen-zukuri” structure in existence. It displays gorgeous and elegant characteristics of the Momoyama-style, such as the use of full lacquer coating, vivid colors and decorative metal fittings. It is one of the representative buildings that showcases the intention of Masamune, known as “DATE” culture. It was designated as a National Treasure in 1903.
