13 Materials Related to the Keicho-era Mission to Europe
These are the materials brought back by the mission that Masamune had sent to the King of Spain and the Pope, in order to request trade with Nueva España (Mexico) and dispatch of missionary. It includes “Certificate of Citizenship of Rome Conferred onto HASEKURA Tsunenaga”, cross and the “Portrait of HASEKURA Tsunenaga” and is considered to be highly valuable set of historical materials that showcases how the international exchange was practiced right before the start of the national isolation in the Edo period.
