25 Tsutsujigaoka hill and shrine of Tenjin
With the “Karamon” gate built in 1651 and old trees of weeping cherry and bur oaks that are over 300 years old, the sceneries remain as the reminiscence of the time when MATSUO Basho, the author of the famous travel essay titled “Oku no Hosomichi” (1702) had visited. There are also many haiku monuments that honor Basho, built in later years. These were added to the list of the National Places of Scenic Beauty in 2015.
