23 Swords with string-wound hilts dedicated to Shiogama-jinja (Shinto shrine) by the lords of Sendai domain
Each lord had offered the sword dedication ceremony to this “jinja”, as a custom at the changing of the reign. Three swords were dedicated at each ceremony, for each deity in the three subordi nate this “jinja”, each called Betsugu(special sanctuary), Sagu(left sanctuary)and Ugu(right sanctuary).It counted up to the total of thirty-nine swords, and thirty-five of them are still present.They display the hopes of each lord and the marks of craftsmen from each pe riod.
