17 Mausoleums of Zuihoden, Kyogamine Mausoleum Complex of DATE Family
Mausoleums of the DATE Family. Though once designal as National Treasures, all of them were destroyed by an airstrike to Sendai in 1945. Masamune’s mausoleum Zuihoden was rebuilt in 1979, and both the second lord Tadamune’s Kansenden and the third Tsunamune’s Zennoden in 1985. Excavational investigation was conducted concurrently with the reconstruction, and artifacts such as Masamune’s sword, letterbox and ornaments were discovered.
