The “DATE Culture” Fostered by Masamune
19 Mausoleum of Entsuin Temple
Sankeiden mausoleum is dedicated to Mitsumune, the heir to the second DATE lord Tadamune, and was built in 1647. A “Zushi (miniature shrine)” that houses the equestrian statue of Mitsumune sits inside. Its elegant color pattern indicates that the cultural sensibility of Masamune was successfully inherited by his descendants. Seven statues of Divine Generals accompany the equestrian statue, and are assumed to be representations of vassals who followed the early death of their young master Mitsumune.
