The “DATE Culture” Fostered by Masamune
39 Dance performances of Kawamae Shishiodori and Kawamae Kenbai
It is said that when the fifth lord Yoshimura gathered all folk culture in the domain and reviewed them, both the Shishiodori and Kenbai were commended for their elegance, and were given permission to use the emblem of “Kuyomon” as well as silk curtains. Today, “Aoba-ku, Kawamae” is located in the upstream of the Hirose River, where it is said to be the favorite fishing point for Masamune. The dance is performed during the “Kawamae Summer Festival” held in July every year.
